The Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society of Nigeria (ASMSN) has her roots in a meeting of potential members at the Nigerian Orthopaedic Association Annual General Meeting in 2017. The meeting allowed for the creation of structures that allowed for the existence of a protem Executive; drafting of the constitution and registration with the Society with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
The Society was fully registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission in 2018 with change of name from the initially proposed Nigerian Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society” (NASMS) to Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Society of Nigeria” (ASMSN).

• To promote, develop and project the practice, science and art of arthroscopy and sports medicine in Nigeria.
  


• To deliver improved quality of care to the patient population while promoting training, research and education in the field of arthroscopy and sports medicine among its members.
  


• To promote collaboration and affiliation with recognized international bodies in the field of arthroscopy and sports medicine with the goal of positioning the country as a hub for treatment of sports injuries in the West African sub-region.
  


• To collaborate and affiliate with the Nigerian Orthopaedic Association (NOA) and other relevant national and international bodies.
